LESSON OVERVIEW FOR ADULTS
In John 14:5–11, Jesus responds to Philip’s question about seeing the Father by explaining that anyone who has seen Him has seen the Father. Jesus affirms His unity with God the Father, making clear that His words and works come directly from God. This passage emphasizes the truth that Jesus reveals God perfectly and invites us to know the Father through Him.
Young children may not fully grasp theological depth, but they can begin to understand that Jesus shows us who God is. By helping them see how Jesus treated others with love, kindness, and truth, we introduce them to God’s character. The goal is to build the foundation that knowing Jesus is the way to know God.
OPENING ACTIVITY 10:15–10:30 “Invisible Ink”
Items Needed
- White crayons
- White paper
- Watercolor paints
- Paint brushes
Have four pieces of small white paper with images you drew on them. Have kids paint over them to reveal the image.
Final piece of paper, write “Jesus shows God!” in white crayon on the white paper. Let kids paint over to reveal the message. Explain that sometimes we don’t see everything right away, but Jesus helps us see God.
BIBLE VERSE GAME 10:30–10:45 “Mirror Me”
Directions: One child makes a movement, and others copy like a mirror. Let each child take a turn leading the motions.
Explain how Jesus is the “mirror” of God. When we learn about Jesus, we learn what God is like.

Hold up a picture of a parent and a child who look alike. Ask, “Can you see the parent in the child?” Then say, “When we look at Jesus, we see what God is like!”

- Why can Jesus show us God? (Because He is God’s Son)
Life Application Questions:
- How can we learn more about Jesus? (Read the Bible, go to church)

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE
John 14:5–11 (KJV):
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
