Lesson Overview for ADULTS
In Genesis 1:14-19, we discover God’s work on the fourth day of creation when He spoke the sun, moon, and stars into existence. After creating plants on day three, God knew light was needed to help everything grow and thrive. The sun became the “greater” light to rule the day, providing warmth and energy for all living things. The moon and countless stars were the “lesser” light designed to illuminate the night sky, creating beauty and wonder that declares God’s glory.
This passage reveals God’s perfect planning and infinite power. Scientists tell us there may be up to 1 septillion stars in the universe. Yet God knows each star by name and placed Earth at exactly the right distance from the sun so we receive just enough light and heat to sustain life. Through the sun, moon, and stars, God also established time, seasons, and the rhythm of day and night that governs life on Earth. This day of creation shows us that our God is a God of order, beauty, and perfect design.

Question 1: Where is this found in the Bible? (Genesis)
Question 2: Is this in the Old Testament or New Testament? (Old Testament)
Once upon a time, before there were any people or animals, God was creating our wonderful world! On day one, God made light. On day two, God made the sky. On day three, God made land and plants – beautiful flowers, tall trees, and green grass everywhere!
But God looked at His plants and said, “My plants need something special to help them grow big and strong. They need bright, warm light!” So on day four, God made something amazing. He made a great big, bright, yellow sun! Hold up yellow circle The sun would shine during the day and make everything warm and bright.
But God wasn’t finished yet! He looked at the dark nighttime and said, “The night needs light too!” So God made the beautiful, glowing moon hold up white circle to shine softly in the night sky. And then – God made thousands and thousands of twinkling stars! Sprinkle star stickers More stars than we can count! The stars sparkle like tiny diamonds in the dark sky.
God looked at the bright sun, the glowing moon, and all the twinkling stars and said, “This is very good!” The sun would help the plants grow during the day, and the moon and stars would make the night beautiful. God had made lights in the sky just for us!
