Lesson Overview for ADULTS
In Genesis 1:9-13, we witness the third day of God’s magnificent creation week, where His divine power transforms the earth through His spoken word. On this day, God commands the waters under the heavens to gather together into one place, allowing dry land to appear and creating the foundation for all terrestrial life. This separation of water and land demonstrates God’s perfect design and order, establishing boundaries and creating distinct environments that would support the diverse life He planned to create. The appearance of dry land, which God called Earth, and the gathering of waters, which He called Seas, shows His intentional planning and sovereign control over all elements of creation.
The creative work of day three continues as God speaks vegetation into existence, commanding the earth to bring forth grass, herbs yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind. This moment reveals God’s provision and foresight, as He creates plant life before creating the animals and humans who would depend on these plants for food and oxygen. Each plant was designed with the ability to reproduce “after his kind,” establishing the biological principle that would maintain the diversity and abundance of plant life throughout history. God’s evaluation that this work was “good” emphasizes the perfection and purposefulness of His creation, setting the stage for the complex ecosystem that would support all living creatures.

BIBLE STORY 6:50-7:00
Question 1: Where is this found in the Bible? Genesis
Question 2: Is this in the Old Testament or New Testament? Old Testament
Bible Story: On day three of creation, God looked at the world He was making. There was water everywhere! But God had a special plan. God said, “Let the water come together in one place, and let dry land appear!” And guess what happened? The water moved exactly where God wanted it to go, and dry ground appeared! God called the dry ground “Earth” and the water “Seas.” God looked at what He made and said it was good!
But God wasn’t finished yet! He looked at the empty land and said, “Let the earth grow grass and plants and trees that make fruit!” Right away, beautiful green grass started growing everywhere! Pretty flowers popped up from the ground! Big strong trees grew up tall with yummy fruit hanging from their branches! God made apple trees, and orange trees, and every kind of plant you can think of!
Object Lesson: Show real fruits, vegetables, and plants as you tell the story. Let children touch and smell them.
Every plant God made was special. The grass was soft and green. The flowers were colorful and smelled sweet. The trees grew big and strong with delicious fruit. And the best part? God made each plant to make more plants! Seeds from the apple would make more apple trees! Seeds from flowers would make more flowers! God thought of everything!
God looked at all the land and plants He had made on day three and smiled. It was very good! Everything was perfect and beautiful, just the way God planned it.
Theological Questions:
- Who made all the plants and land? (God)
- How did God make the plants grow? (He spoke and they grew)
Life Application Questions:
- What’s your favorite plant or tree that God made? (Accept any answer)
- How can we take care of the plants God made? (Water them, don’t pick them unnecessarily)
Prayer: “Dear God, thank You for making the beautiful land and all the plants we see. Help us remember that You made everything good and perfect. Amen.”
