LESSON THEME: Walk Like Jesus
1 John 2:5-6 reminds us when we truly keep God’s word, His love is perfected and completed within us. Those who claim to abide in God must demonstrate this through their actions by walking as Jesus walked. This passage emphasizes that authentic faith isn’t merely intellectual knowledge but is proven through obedience that reflects Christ’s example in daily life.

Opening: Follow the Leader Game
USE THIS TO GO TO THE OTHER CLASSROOM
Today we’re going to play a fun game called Follow the Leader. I’ll be the leader, and you need to do exactly what I do. Watch carefully and follow along! (Lead children in simple motions: walking in a circle, clapping hands, jumping, touching toes, etc.)
WHEN WE GET TO THE ROOM
Great job following! Now, who can tell me why it was important to watch what I was doing? (Let children respond) Yes! You needed to pay attention so you could do the same things. Today we’re learning about obeying God. Just like in our game, God wants us to listen and do what He says.
BIBLE LESSON
ITEMS NEEDED
- Bible
- Footprints (printed on cardstock)
- Large sheets of construction paper
- Permanent Marker (to trace feet)
- Glue
- Walk Like Jesus print outs (to glue on feet)
JESUS FOOT PRINT FIND
Place large footprint cutouts in a path around the room. On each footprint write or draw simple actions Jesus did: “Pray,” “Help others,” “Share,” “Be kind,” etc.
Tell kids to find a footprint and take it to the Bible reading squares.
SCRIPTURE STUDY
“Let’s read from God’s Word together! I need your best listening ears.”
Show children the Bible and read slowly and clearly:
“This is from 1 John 2:5-6: ‘But whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.'”
“Hmm, that had some big words! Let’s learn what it means together!”
When we follow God’s words in the Bible, it shows we love Him! The Bible says that when we say we love Jesus, we should act like Jesus too. Jesus was kind, helpful, and always obeyed God – we can do that too!”
Hold up one of the footprint cutouts
“When we follow Jesus, it’s like walking in His footsteps!”
Footprint Craft
Have children glue the words “Walk Like Jesus” on their footprints and decorate their footprints.
Ask each kid to stand up and say what is on their footprint. Discuss what it means.
“When we come to church, we are learning about following in Jesus’s footsteps! We are making our own footprints to help us remember our lesson.”
