This self inflating balloon science project is a great first grade science lesson.
Magic Balloon Experiment Video
Supplies Needed
1 balloon
1 water bottle (empty)
4 tablespoons of vinegar
2 tablespoons of baking soda
1 spoon
A funnel (or paper to pour the baking soda in the balloon)
About the Magic Balloon Science Experiment
Pour 4 tablespoons of vinegar into the empty water bottle using a spoon or funnel.
Pour two tablespoons of baking soda into the balloon.
Put the balloon over the mouth of the bottle.
Lift the balloon up to let the baking soda fall into the vinegar.
Watch and observe.
Science Behind the Experiment
Your little scientist will watch the chemical reaction as the bicarbonate baking soda reacts with the acetic acid in the vinegar making carbon dioxide. They’ll see this first as the baking soda and vinegar form bubbles and the gas quickly expands to inflate the balloon attached to the bottle.
