If you look in the mirror and are honest in evaluating the person looking back at you, would you say the person has a heart full of humility or a heart full of pride?
Today, Trinity Baptist Church welcomed Joel and Angela May as guest speakers. The duo has had a marriage ministry for many years and spoke on keys to making relationships work.
The first thing they spoke about is recognizing and agreeing as a couple that divorce is not an option. When you said “I do”, you committed your life to another person. If we let sin come in and destroy our families, we no doubt will let it come in and destroy our world.
The heart of their message focused on the need to be humble in our relationships.
****1 Peter 5:5****
Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

So what does it mean to show humility?
First, it’s important to understand humility is the opposite of pride. Wherever pride seeps into your life, your relationships will suffer.
Your obedience to God is directly in line with your humility. The more humility you have, the more obedient you will be. The more pride you have, the less obedient you will be in your walk with Him.
Having a humble heart through Christ will help you overcome your pride and make your relationships stronger.
3 THINGS HUMILITY IS…
1. Humility is a Choice
God has called you to love and respect your spouse. Every minute of your life you have a choice in how you treat your spouse. Your made up mind “to be humble in what you choose” in those moments should always be stronger than the the mood you might be in at that time. Making the choice to be humble is just that … an intentional choice, no different than the intentional choice you make each morning in deciding which outfit to put on.
2. Humility is an Attitude
You can pick an attitude of pride or an attitude of humility.
3. Humility is a Reflection
Humility is a reflection of who Christ is in your life. Each morning you should wake up and say, “Today I am going to put on an attitude that is a reflection of Christ.”
Within your marriage, you have to humbly submit to your spouse through Christ. When you live in a humble spirit, God will turn your trials into triumphs.
