As a first time mom, I never knew how quickly time would go by. I wrote this poem in the wee hours of the morning when my daughter was just shy of being two months old.
I Love to Watch You Grow
Laying in my arms each night
I love to watch you grow
But time is going by too fast
I truly wish it’d slow
There are so many tiny things
I try hard to memorize
Before I know it they’ll be big
This I realize
Like how you do that precious stretch
Your tiny arms above your head
After every feeding
As we lay quietly in bed
And then there is your smile
As coy as it can be
That melts my mommy heart
Each time, you doze off to sleep
Yes laying in my arms my dear
I treasure every little thing
Like how your eyes look at me
With each lullaby I sing
You’re curled up on my belly now
So precious and so small
As I feel you breathing
I lay here in total awe
As your tiny fingers
Grasp onto my big hand
My love for you grows stronger
In a moment oh so grand
Now I hear your tiny grunt
Into a ball you curl
As though you are reminding me
“Mom, I’m your baby girl.”
Yes I could lay here wide awake
Just to watch you sleep
And hold you in my loving arms
Treasuring memories to keep
These moments, I wish to pause
They’re going by too fast
You are my precious angel girl
I am glad you’re here at last
My daughter, I love you dear
Always know without a doubt
That treasuring this time with you
Is what life is truly all about
