For the last week Brandon and I have kept the most exciting & memorable moment of our trip secret, so we could call or visit his family in person when we got back. Sorry if you didn’t get a call on my end – I am not the best at phoning everyone. In fact, I only phoned my mom!!
Here goes the story of the best time I said “Ya Mon” in Jamaica.
On the first night of our stay, we decided to watch stars after eating a delicious meal at the Jade Samurai grill. It was a beautiful night, one of only two where the clouds stayed away & we were able to see an actual meteor.
As the meteor went by, Brandon asked me what my wish was. I said, “That my dad would be back alive.” His wish was, “That we could spend the rest of our lives together.”
I told him to make another wish because that was already something we were talking about at some point. He wiped the tears from my eyes from missing my dad.
A bit later we got up and stood in the sand. He said he had loved me for a long time, and I asked since when. He said since shortly after we’d first met on a flight to Vegas and then LA. We hugged, then he went down on a knee.
Here it is important to note, I had no clue he was proposing. I thought he just knew how much I loved the silky soft Jamaican sand. So I too got down on my knees. Then he looked into my eyes, asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him, and I said, “Ya Mon.”
Okay, I wasn’t quick enough to say, “Ya Mon”. I said, “Yes”, but shortly after I changed my answer to the more unique & country appropriate, “Ya Mon”.
After he put the ring on my finger, we asked another couple sitting further down the beach to take our picture. It came out fuzzy, but it’s still a good picture because of the excitement of the moment.
Then we headed from the beach (well, after a few more celebratory kisses & hugs) to our hotel room to call my mom. Naturally, our calling card wouldn’t work. So we started sending e-mails & Facebook messages to her to call us. I wanted her to be the first to know. After no calls, I even attempted Facebook chat with Ms. Szymanski, and asked her to call my mom & have her call us. Shortly after I hit send, however, mom called. She’d received a txt message Brandon had tried sending from a free program on the internet. She was so excited. After sharing the news, she called Brandon’s parent’s and had them call us.
Then I sent a photo to them, plus a photo to my Aunt Jan & Uncle Jimmy. Then I wanted to call my best friend Stephanie, but I had no way. So I e-mailed her & informed her she had a new job, to be my matron of honor. I am told when she got the e-mail she was very excited, and she e-mailed me back to accept the position! 🙂 God bless internet when phone cards won’t work!
It’s exciting to use the word fiance instead of boyfriend. But it was hard not slipping up as I blogged this past week. Thank you to those who knew and kept it a secret until we got back. I know that was really hard for my mom, who told me yesterday on the phone that she just couldn’t wait to tell every one!
We will post pictures of the vacation, including the photo of my beautiful diamond & sapphire engagement ring, either tonight, or later this week. Stay tuned.
I am beyond excited and thrilled that such a wonderful man has fallen in love with our beautiful & loving niece. May Love surround you both now & always. Way to go Brandon!
