LESSON OVERVIEW FOR ADULTS
In Genesis 1:6–8, God continues His creation by forming the sky and separating the waters. He creates a space between the waters above and the waters below, calling this space “sky.” This shows God bringing order and structure to what was once formless.
This passage reminds us that God is intentional in His creation. Everything has a purpose and place because He designed it that way. The sky and seas demonstrate God’s power and creativity, and they help children understand that God made the world with care and control.
PLAY ROOM 10:15–10:30
Children will be dropped off in the playroom between 10:15–10:30 a.m. Allow them to play freely as they arrive. Transition them to the classroom at 10:30 a.m.

BIBLE STORY 11:05–11:15
Classroom Promise: With my eyes on my teacher, my mouth quiet as can be, I will listen to hear, how God loves you and me.
Where do the stories we learn about come from?
[Let kids respond]
That’s right, the Bible. These are God’s stories.
Today’s story comes from the Old Testament, from the book of Genesis.
[Point to the Books of the Bible]
In the beginning, God made everything. On day 1 He made light. Today we are going to learn about what he made on day 2.
God made the sky. And God separated the waters.
Let’s use our hands and separate, like this.
[Demonstrate pulling hands apart]
Water went below.
Point down low.
[Kids point]
Water went above.
Reach up high.
[Kids stretch up]
God put space in between and called it the sky.
The sky is up high.
Can you look up?
[Kids look up]
And the seas are down low.
What sound does an ocean wave make?
[Let kids respond with WOOSH]
God saw what He made, and it was good.
So on day 2, God made the sky and the seas.
Let’s say that together.
God made the sky and the seas.
[Repeat together]
