Genesis 1:24-31 | (Day 6) God Creates Animals and People

LESSON OVERVIEW FOR ADULTS

In Genesis 1:24–31, God completes His creation by making land animals and human beings. He speaks animals into existence, filling the earth with creatures of every kind, each designed with purpose. This moment shows God’s creativity and authority as everything comes into being exactly as He commands.

God then creates people in His own image, setting them apart from all other living things. He gives them responsibility to care for the earth and everything in it. This passage reminds us that humans are special to God, created intentionally, and that all of creation is good because it was made by Him.

Classroom Promise: With my eyes on my teacher, my mouth quiet as can be, I will listen to hear, how God loves you and me.

Where do the stories we learn about come from?
[Let kids respond]
That’s right, the Bible. These are God’s stories.

Today’s story comes from the Old Testament, from the book of Genesis.
[Point to the Books of the Bible]

God had been making the world, and now it was day six.

[Use excited voice]
God said, Let the land be filled with animals.

Suddenly, animals were everywhere.

Let’s stomp like big elephants.
[Kids stomp]

Let’s roar like lions.
[Kids roar]

Let’s hop like bunnies.
[Kids hop]

God made all kinds of animals. Big ones and small ones.

Can you show me a tiny animal with your fingers?
[Kids respond]

Can you stretch tall like a giraffe?
[Kids respond]

God looked at the animals and said it was good.

But God was not done yet.

[Whisper]
He was about to make something very special.

God made people in His image.

God made the first man. His name was Adam.

Can you say Adam?
[Wait for response]

God made the first woman too. Her name was Eve.

Can you say Eve?
[Wait for response]

Let’s take a deep breath.
[Kids breathe in and out]

God gave people life. Just like you.

Touch your nose.
[Kids respond]
Touch your hands.
[Kids respond]

God made YOU special.

How do you think God felt about His creation? Happy or sad?
[Let kids respond]

God saw everything He made, and it was very good.

Let’s all say “It was good.”
[Kids repeat]

God made animals.
God made people.
God made YOU.

Let’s clap and say thank you God.
[Clap together]

SCRIPTURE REFERENCE | Genesis 1:24–31

And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds, livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
