Lesson Overview for ADULTS
In Genesis 1:24-31, we witness the magnificent conclusion of God’s creative work on the sixth day. On this special day, God created all the land animals including the tiniest crawling creatures and the largest wild beasts. He created farm animals, reptiles, and amphibians. Each animal was created “according to its kind,” showing God’s intentional design and purpose for every creature. The text emphasizes that God saw this work and declared it good, reflecting His perfect plan and creative excellence.
The climax of creation comes with the formation of mankind. Unlike all other creatures, humans were made “in God’s image” and given a special relationship with their Creator. God breathed into man the breath of life, making humans unique among all creation. He blessed them and gave them dominion over all the animals and plants, establishing their role as caretakers of His creation. After completing this wonderful work, God looked at everything He had made and declared it “very good,” showing His complete satisfaction with the crowning achievement of creation.

Question 1: Where is this found in the Bible? (Genesis)
Question 2: Is this in the Old Testament or New Testament? (Old Testament)
On the sixth day of creation, God was ready to make more special creatures! First, He made all the animals that live on land. God said, “Let the earth be filled with living creatures!” and suddenly there were wild animals like lions and bears, farm animals like cows and sheep, and little crawling creatures like lizards and bugs. Every single animal was exactly what God wanted it to be!
Look at all these amazing animals! God made the big elephants with long trunks, tiny ants that work together, soft bunnies with fluffy tails, and tall giraffes that can eat leaves from tall trees. Each animal was perfectly made by God!
But then God decided to make something extra special. He said, “Let’s make people in Our image.” This meant people would be different from all the animals. God took some dust from the ground and carefully shaped the first person, Adam. Then God breathed into Adam’s nose, and Adam came alive! God made Adam special because people can talk to God, love God, and be friends with God in a way that animals cannot.
When God looked at everything He had made on day six, He said it was “very good!”
Theological Questions:
- Who made all the animals? (God made all the animals)
- How are people different from animals? (People are made in God’s image and can be friends with God)
Life Application Questions:
- How can we take care of God’s animals? (Be kind to pets, don’t hurt animals)
- What makes you special to God? (God made me in His image and loves me)
Prayer: “Dear God, thank You for making all the wonderful animals and for making people special in Your image. Help us take care of Your creation and remember how much You love us. Amen.”
BIBLE CRAFT 7:00-7:10
Craft: “God Made Me in His Image” Decorated Hand Mirror (11:00-11:15 a.m.)
Items Needed: Small hand mirrors (plastic safety mirrors), foam stickers, adhesive gems, permanent markers (adult use only), washi tape or decorative tape, construction paper, scissors, glue sticks, crayons
Instructions:
- Give each child a small plastic hand mirror
- Cut construction paper frames that fit around the mirror’s edge (adults pre-cut these)
- Let children decorate their paper frames with crayons, drawing animals God created around the border
- Help children glue the decorated frame onto their mirror
- Provide foam stickers of animals and people for children to place on the frame
- Add adhesive gems or decorative tape around the handle for extra decoration
- Write each child’s name on a small paper strip and glue it to the handle
- On the back of the mirror, adults can write “God made me in His image – Genesis 1:27”
As children work, have them look in their mirrors and talk about how God made each of them special and different. Explain that when they look in their mirror, they see someone made in God’s image! Just like God created all the animals to be different and special, He made each child unique and precious. Encourage them to take their mirror home and remember every day that they are made in God’s image and He loves them very much.

Bible Verse: Genesis 1:24-31 (KJV)
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
