At church today, Pastor Andy Coats talked about “Living a Bold Prayer Life.”
THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOW TO PRAY:
1. There is Pattern in Prayer (Matthew 6:5-13)
*UPWARD: Honor God first with our focus.
*DOWNWARD: Focus back down on His kingdom and the ability to do His work down here.
*INWARD: Ask God to change us, mold us, shape us, and help us forgive others
*OUTWARD: Ask God to help give us strength to go out and walk our faith.
2. Be Persistent in Prayer (Luke 11:1-13)
We live in a culture that tell us to give up and quit when things aren’t easy. Culture tells us to just move on to the next thing. We have to remain persistent in our prayers. God may not respond in your timing, but He will respond in His timing. Keep asking through prayer.
3. There is Power in Prayer (Ephesians 3:20-21)
To receive the power in prayer, you must participate in it. You must boldly pray and believe in who you are praying to and what you are praying for. Nothing of great significance happens without prayer or without doing it according to God’s will and God’s way.
FOUR PRAYERS TO PRAY
1. Prayer of Position (Psalms 139:23-24)
Ask to be humble before the Lord, so He can work in you.
2. Prayer of Plea (Philippians 4:6-7)
Let your requests be known to God. Don’t get so wrapped up in the list of prayers that you lose sight of what you are praying for.
3. Prayer of Purpose (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12)
Live your life worthy to your calling.
4. Prayer of Possibility (Romans 15:13)
Your possibility is limited by your ability, but God can make the impossible possible.
