God truly works in amazing ways. I’ll share more about this journey later, but I just wanted to say how blessed Brandon Bell and I were to find Trinity Baptist Church this summer. We thought we were doing it because our daughter needed it.
In mid-July they played a video about a marriage ministry they were offering called ReEngage. One of the testimonies shared in that video said, “We got so good at sweeping conflict under the rug that it lead to mistrust and resentment.”
Those words spoke to me. I cried for the next 24 hours each time I heard them. It would take me two more weeks, and Brandon finally forcing me to talk, for me to share years of things I had bottled up.
I asked him if he would do the class with me. He said yes.
On August 22nd we started the first Sunday night class. Each week we are given an assignment to work on as a couple. I think we have learned more about one another the last 3 weeks than we have in the 11 years we have been together.
Our assignment this week was to reflect on Psalm 139:23-24 and then reflect on ways we have been angry, selfish, prideful, lazy, controlling, and critical. Then we had to share how our sins have impacted our marriage.
As part of that exercise, all we could respond as we listened to the other share was “Thank you for sharing.” We were laughing so hard by the end of the assignment last night (despite the hard things we discussed) that we thought we needed matching shirts to wear to class tonight.
**** Psalm 139:23-24 ****
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
