When our daughter was old enough to really appreciate the magic of Christmas, my husband and I realized she was missing the most important part of the season. She didn’t understand it was about celebrating the birth of Jesus.
While many of our friends were adopting holiday traditions like Elf on a Shelf for their children, we wanted to start a new tradition that would teach our toddler about the real meaning of Christmas.
So I sat down and wrote her a book written through the eyes of her guardian angel. Her angel teaches her about the various symbols of Christmas throughout the book.
Teaching the Spirit of Giving
Similar to an Advent Calendar, each day in December leading up to Christmas, the Angel goes out searching for someone who needs Christmas cheer. She returns each evening after we are home for the day with a present for our toddler. Inside the presents are all of the supplies she needs to make a gift from the heart for someone.
Each weekend in December we compile the gifts our toddler has made and deliver them throughout the neighborhood to the people she Angel selected.
It has been a wonderful Christmas tradition for our family. More importantly, it has helped teach our daughter that Christmas is more fun when you give to others and share the love Jesus has for all his children.
